The News Breakdown

(March 1-7, 2025 – Posted Saturday, March 8, 2025)

Well, folks, another week has come and gone, and if you survived watching CNN or MSNBC, congratulations—you deserve a medal (or at least a stiff drink). The usual suspects have been hard at work, delivering their standard programming: 24/7 Trump panic, dramatic gaslighting, and a fresh batch of "experts" telling us that everything Republicans do is the literal end of democracy.

So, grab your coffee and a roll of Tums—because here’s your sarcastic weekly wrap-up, straight from the liberal fantasy land of CNN & MSNBC, as seen through the skeptical, slightly ticked-off eyes of a grumpy conservative.

🚨 BREAKING: TRUMP STILL EXISTS, AND WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE 🚨

As expected, Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) continues to be the most contagious disease at CNN & MSNBC. This week, anchors were positively hyperventilating over every breath President Trump took.

  • Trump is "Destroying" Democracy… Again – CNN devoted at least 47 segments this week to explaining how Trump’s mere existence is a threat to democracy. At this point, I think they just have a Mad Libs generator in the back that randomly fills in “Trump is DESTROYING _____” with words like freedom, truth, the rule of law, brunch, puppies, your grandma’s bingo night, etc.

  • The Latest "Bombshell" (That No One Cares About) – MSNBC spent 80% of their airtime covering a completely pointless “exclusive” on how Trump eats his steak well-done with ketchupagain. Yes, folks, that’s the real scandal. Meanwhile, somewhere in Chicago, a literal crime wave is happening, but let’s focus on Mar-a-Lago’s dinner menu instead.

  • Trump's "Dictatorship" on Hold? – The real tragedy of the week for CNN? Trump hasn’t actually turned into a full-blown dictator yet, despite their months of predictions. Seriously, they had an entire panel mourning the fact that he hasn’t seized control of the military, locked up his political opponents, and installed himself as Supreme Emperor of the Universe. (Give it time, guys. You’ve got at least another four years of panic material.)

The Border Crisis That Apparently Doesn’t Exist (Except When It Does)

  • Biden’s Border? No Problem! – Both networks spent Monday explaining that there’s no crisis at the border and that any reports of record illegal crossings, drug smuggling, and cartel activity are right-wing fear-mongering.

  • Wednesday’s Update: The Border is a Crisis—Because It’s Trump’s Fault! – By midweek, someone at CNN HQ must have realized that millions of Americans can actually see what’s happening down south, so they quickly pivoted to blaming Trump for the border disaster. MSNBC ran a hilarious segment explaining that “Trump’s rhetoric” somehow caused an increase in illegal crossings. (Ah, yes. A man who has been president for less than two months is now responsible for a crisis that’s been raging for four years. Makes total sense.)

  • Texas Takes Matters Into Its Own Hands – Republican Gov. Greg Abbott continued his unacceptable habit of actually trying to fix the problem. CNN’s Don Lemon (oh wait, he got fired… again) was nowhere to be found, but Joy Reid stepped in to declare that Abbott’s efforts to stop illegal crossings are “modern-day segregation”. (Nothing says "segregation" like wanting a sovereign nation to control its own borders, right?)

Biden Watch: Is He Okay? (Spoiler: No.)

  • CNN Fact-Checkers Go on Strike – CNN’s entire fact-checking team was reportedly placed on administrative leave after trying to keep up with President Biden’s gaffe-per-minute speed record this week. In just the past few days, he:

    • Forgot the name of his own Defense Secretary (again).
    • Called Kamala Harris "President" (again).
    • Claimed he spoke to Margaret Thatcher last week (who has been dead since 2013).
    • Told voters he "grew up in a Black, Jewish, Puerto Rican, and Chinese neighborhood in Scranton" (…uh, sure, Joe).
  • MSNBC’s Response? “He’s Just Folksy!” – Any time Biden completely malfunctions on live television, CNN and MSNBC fall back on their favorite excuse: “That’s just Joe being Joe!” Right. And if Trump mispronounces one word, we get four days of psychologists diagnosing him with a severe brain disorder. Makes sense.

International Women’s Day: MSNBC Celebrates… Men?

  • Friday was International Women’s Day, which, in normal times, would mean celebrating actual women. But this is 2025, where reality is optional.

  • CNN’s Special Report on Women’s Contributions to Society… accidentally featured three biological men.

  • Rachel Maddow gave a heartfelt speech about women in politics… featuring several biological men.

  • MSNBC hosted a panel about women’s rights, where someone unironically suggested that “women’s issues are too important to be left to just women.” (You can’t make this up, folks!)

  • Meanwhile, actual female athletes continued to get crushed in sports, but CNN reassured us that it’s all just “part of progress.” (Yes, progress… toward a future where biological males win every female trophy. What a time to be alive!)

Hollywood: More Woke, Less Watchable

  • Over in La-La Land, the Oscars are coming up, and early reports indicate that not a single movie anyone actually saw is nominated for Best Picture. Instead, expect a lot of self-important, three-hour-long “art” films that grossed $12 at the box office but got standing ovations at Sundance.

  • Late-night comedy is officially dead – This week, MSNBC celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Daily Show’s shift into an unfunny lecture series. Gone are the days when late-night hosts made actual jokes. Now, it’s just a bunch of smug dudes making the same “Trump is bad” punchline every night.

  • MSNBC’s Joy Reid did an entire segment on whether Republicans should be “banned” from Hollywood entirely. (Uh, newsflash: they already are.)

Closing Thoughts from Your Friendly Grumpy Republican

So there you have it, folks—another week of CNN and MSNBC doing what they do best: ignoring real issues, spinning fairy tales, and reminding us why no one outside of New York and California actually takes them seriously anymore.

Enjoy your weekend, stay away from CNN unless you enjoy rage-watching, and as always—if you hear the phrase “Trump threatens democracy” one more time, just take a shot of bourbon and move on. God bless America! 🍻

The Danger of Echo Chambers: Why We Need to Break Free

It’s easy to surround yourself with voices that tell you exactly what you want to hear. Whether you’re watching Fox News and scrolling Truth Social or flipping to MSNBC while scrolling Bluesky , you’re in an echo chamber. And while it feels good to have your beliefs reinforced, it’s also a trap—one that narrows your thinking, deepens divisions, and makes real conversation almost impossible. What’s an Echo Chamber, Anyway? An echo chamber is when you’re only exposed to opinions that match your own. Social media and news networks thrive on this—they keep you engaged by feeding you more of what you already agree with. Over time, you start believing your perspective is the only reasonable one, and anyone who disagrees must be clueless, brainwashed, or just plain wrong. Why That’s a Problem It Locks in Your Biases – If you never challenge your own thinking, you stop growing. It Fuels Division – The less you hear from “the other side,” the easier it is to see them as the enemy. It...

How Democratic Hyperbole is Costing Them Power and Donors

The Democratic Party has spent the better part of the last decade perfecting the art of outrage. Every election cycle, every Supreme Court ruling, every conservative policy has been met with the same hysteria: democracy is on the verge of collapse, Trump is a dictator, and America is teetering on the edge of fascism. But after years of breathless hyperbole, something is hap pening that Democrats didn’t see coming—people are tuning them out. Worse, their biggest donors are walking away. A recent New York Times article, “Venting at Democrats and Fearing Trump, Liberal Donors Pull Back Cash” (Feb. 16, 2025), lays out in devastating detail how Democratic fearmongering and dysfunction have led to a mass exodus of donor support. The small-dollar donors who poured millions into resisting Trump in 2017? They’ve checked out. The billionaire donors who have propped up progressive institutions for years? They’re either backing off or hedging their bets with Trump. A Party in Financial Fre...

The Problem with Negotiated Peace: How the Camp David Accords Did More Harm Than Good

The Camp David Accords are often held up as a shining example of diplomacy—proof that enemies can sit down, talk it out, and walk away with a deal that keeps everyone happy. But here’s the thing: real peace doesn’t come from compromise. It comes from victory. Had the war between Israel and Egypt run its course, had there been a clear winner and loser, the Middle East might look very different today. Instead, we got a “peace” agreement that did little more than hit pause on a fight that was bound to continue. And it has, in many different ways. And let’s be honest—this wasn’t about long-term peace. It was about President Jimmy Carter chasing a legacy. He wanted to be the great peacemaker, the man who ended war in the Middle East. He wanted that Nobel Peace Prize. But in doing so, he ignored the reality of the conflict, and in the end, his prize cost both Israeli and Arab lives. The Accords Didn’t End the Conflict—They Just Changed the Rules On the surface, the Camp David Accords looked ...
